The medical clinic of David P. Myers, MD,PA is designed to deal with the immediate physical needs of patients suffering from addiction. The goal of treatment at the David P. Myers Clinic is amelioration of symptoms and prevention of complications.

This may include detoxification, chronic pain management, psychiatric stabilization or referral. Mild withdrawal can be managed with a quiet supportive environment, re-orientation, and observation. If patients progress symptomatically despite a supportive environment, pharmacologic treatment should be instituted. When treating alcohol withdrawal, a larger dose of medications may be required than what is commonly used when treating the attendant anxiety of withdrawal from other drugs and may require hospitalization or a transfer to a higher level of care for the patients safety. The patient's response is observed and the dosage adjusted accordingly. Treatment centers have traditionally used a fixed-dose schedule for withdrawal; however, recent studies have promoted a more prescriptive
approach that involves repeated assessments of the patient and dose adjustments (Saitz, et. al. 1994). Dr. Myers is a Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine and a founder and past president of the Florida Society of Addiction Medicine.
