Here is what you can expect as a client in our custom in-care drug and alcohol addictions recovery program.
Many of our recovery staff members have been exactly where you are today
At HealthCare Connection of Tampa you are not alone in your recovery. Like you, many of our staff have faced the stresses and the temptations that led to a dependence on drugs, alcohol or both. They have faced the embarrassment of losing control and the fear of accepting they had a problem.
Like our current clients some sought treatment voluntarily. Some not. Some found success the first time out. Others struggled to find a program that worked for them.
And many are alumni of a HealthCare Connection of Tampa program, similar to the one we will build for you. On this page we will share a little about what you can expect to experience as a client of one of HCC’s addiction recovery programs.
What you get from your addictions recovery treatment at HCC has a lot to do with what you put in
For some it can be tough to face the issues and circumstances that have led them to seek recovery. And if you are like many of our clients you have already been through several programs. In fact, HealthCare Connection is sometimes seen as a recovery program of “last resort” – but more importantly it has proven time and again to be the program where you finally find success.
Equally important, clients who have chosen us for their initial care have had a very high success rate of putting their lives back together the first time out.
We offer you a stronger opportunity for a successful recovery because we take a more holistic approach to care. We look at the spiritual piece of the equation, incorporating 12-Step strategies. We look at the core issues that contributed to your addictive behavior – such as the contributing stresses of your professional or home life, often employing a variety of techniques to help you deal with them more effectively without drugs or alcohol.
To determine your recovery needs we start by looking at your specific addictions
Over the years we’ve worked with clients with a wide variety of chemical dependencies and have had success treating a range of addictions including alcohol, narcotics, painkillers, cocaine, heroin and many other habit-forming drugs. But identifying your addictions is just the start. We look at other co-occurring disorders you may have such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, sexual addiction, and bipolar disorder, and how they may be affecting your ability to keep your addictions under control. And then we create a custom program that meets your needs.
It is an approach that gets results. The program is not easy, but in reality it is only as hard as you want to make it.
Your daily program will involve a lot of time working on your issues individually, in groups and one-on-one with your counselor.
You will also participate in sessions that will teach you effective relaxation techniques that will help you learn to cope with the stresses and anxieties that may have contributed to your addictive behavior.
A typical day at HCC starts with a morning meditation with the other residents of your apartment. Some days it may be a walking meditation or a group meditation. Some days we talk about how you are doing as a group or how you are doing as a house. Some days you’ll discuss the reading for the day from AA or NA.
Establishing a routine begins the recovery process
At 9am you start your group sessions. It might be reading from a book and a group discussion. It might be a spirituality session.
Some days group sessions are followed with a learning session led by one of our staff doctors. You will learn to understand the root causes of addiction. Topics are varied, interesting and enlightening.
In the afternoon you will have a process group where you are given assignments. Assignments are varied, but they are generally introspective and help you to understand how you came to where you are today, so you can deal with it and move ahead.
Several days a week you’ll participate in what we call a barometer. Here you have the opportunity to voice concerns for the community and talk about changes that have happened. Talk about the process. And find out where you’re at and what you and others are thinking about the process.
After dinner you’ll enjoy a little “you” time
You can use this time to take care of personal matters, go shopping, go to the gym, or just relax and think on your own.
In the evening you will participate in a meeting and meditation group. Meetings will often involve your peers – with meetings available to deal with the specific issues faced by attorneys, medical professionals, women and young adults. Meetings will often include participants from the outside community facing similar stresses as well as alumni from our program.
Your day concludes with a final meditation and a chance to talk about your hits and misses for the day. You’ll find your days are busy, but fulfilling.
Getting you back to day-to-day life
As you reach the final phase of treatment you will continue to work on your core issues, but at the same time we will be working with you to help you get ready to reintegrate into the real world.
During this phase you will explore ways to avoid, or deal with, the situations that brought you to us in the first place. We will help you to take a look at your work environment and home life to understand how to make it work for you without falling back into old habits.
In the end, remember our doors are always open to you. As we discussed above, it is not uncommon for our alumni to attend our evening meetings — not only to offer support to our current clients, but also to continue to work on their own issues.
